Month 12 started in Botswana where we only had 15 day left of our 43 day Africa Safari! The last 15 days of our safari had us over driving though Botswana & Namibia before ending in Cape Town, South Africa on June 15. We had our 1 year travel anniversary in Frankfurt Germany on June 29th. It has been one hell of year, pushing me way outside of my comfort zone, and bringing us to 28 countries over past year. Our month ended in quaint little village called Steingaden, Germany.
We spent 9 nights in luxurious neighborhood of Camps Bay in Capetown, South Africa. We splurged a little on a hotel but got a steal for only $65 a night at Primi-Royal hotel. We had a huge king size bed, claw foot bathtub, huge shower, ocean view great for the sunsets, and our own private outdoor hot tub. We needed these 9 nights of luxury after camping for 40+ nights.

Money Spent: $4,093.12 We were spent half of June still on our African Safari which was already all paid for last month, and we previously took $2,000 USD to bring to Africa for spending along the way. This months money was taken out in cash from ATMs to get local currency in each country. Our meals were included 90% of the days, only leaving us snacks & booze to purchase. The other half of the month we had to cover our hotel & meals. We did have to renew our travel insurance which was $966. We spent $813 on hotels, $80 on wine tasting & bottles for our fantastic room in Cape Town. You can’t go to Germany without getting a beer stein or two, that was $72. We had a slight accident with souvenirs in Namibia $586, and went on a 2.5 hour ATV in the sand dunes $105. Also got some clothing for the upcoming wedding in Latvia $80. Our guides with Acacia- Africa were so amazing we had to tip them they earned every penny (and probably more) of the $200 tip. Shark diving in Cape Town $135, still to tell you that story. A few pampering sessions (massage & pedi) $75. Other random gifts $65, and tours/sightseeing fees $152.
Number of Beds slept in: 6 actual beds, 1 over night on an airplane, and 10 times we put up the tents and laid down our sleeping bags…
Beers Drank (Adam): 52
Ice Cream Cone Consumption (Hannah): 18
Items lost, ditched, or other wise MIA: Before going to Africa we had to purchase more shirts and warmer items, but along the way we donated/traded for Malawi carvings. We bought a ton of souvenirs in Namibia we have 50lbs that we will be sending back to the USA.
