The who are you ?’s

1. Who are you and where do you hail from?

We are Kathleen and Brock and we are from the Chicago area.

2. How did you meet your partner in crime? How long have you known each other?

It’s funny cause we aren’t exactly sure how we met! We know we met in the fall of 2003 in college so I guess we’ve know each other almost 10 years! We had mutual friends that all hung out together and that’s how we knew each other. We were good friends for several years before we decided we were in love and we got married last year!

3. What jobs did you kick to the curb in order to travel?

Brock left behind an job as an Operations Manager for Allied Waste, and Kathleen was more than excited to leave a sales job at Groupon.

4. Explain your website name, where did it come from/how did you come up with it?

You know, no one has ever asked us about this! Love the question. So, we have this thing we say to each other all the time…and we actually have it engraved on our wedding bands, that helped us come up with the name. We wanted our website name/brand to incorporate something personal, but also be relevant for what we were doing. Our little thing we say to each other is ”You’re my favorite” and we felt like life was going to be our favorite adventure [together], so it worked out that we could incorporate it.

The fun ?’s

1. What’s the most under-estimated country & why?

So far Kathleen thinks Portugal is the most under-estimated. It is seriously stunning in so many ways, yet you don’t often hear of people eager to travel there.

2. What’s your biggest travel mishap?

Nothing major yet! Thank goodness. We had one little scare when the airport in Australia wouldn’t let us on our flight to New Zealand without us producing a hard copy of our New Zealand visa or proof of a return flight within 90 days. It was resolved quickly by a quick phone call to New Zealand confirming we had valid visas.

3. What luxuries did you forgoe in order to save for your travels?

Since we knew for a long time we were going to live a rather unconventional life, we always tried to live below our means and save as much as possible. Once we put a date on when we would “leave” for good we stopped eating out all together and canceled one cell phone the for few months before we left.

4. What country has the best $1usd menu? What can one expect to get for $1usd?

We haven’t been to a country recently that has a $1USD menu… We can’t wait to get to a more inexpensive area of the world soon!

I have been asked by almost all of my friends “what part of your trip are you looking forward to most?” That’s a tough question cause there I sooooo much to look forward to with a 700+ day long trip. So we decided to put a series together on what we are looking forward to most, and coming in at #7 is FIJI

Come on its Fiji, does any other destination conjure up visions of paradise like Fiji??

R & R

Our time in Fiji will come after 6 week in South America where our route will not take us to the beach very much. So Fiji will be a nice relaxing break from the hiking in the Andean counties of Eastern South America.

No Real Plan

This is the start of our trip where we just have general outlines of what we think we want to do. The Yasawa Group looks interesting and still seems to be affordable. We may spend some time of Suva, and find our way from there. We are open to any suggestions from anyone who’s been there. I think it would be cool to see the Castaway Island where Tom Hanks hung out for a while!

Huts over the ocean

I so badly want to stay in a hut on stilts over the water, but Unless we find a real deal I don’t think it will happen on our RTW trip. Oh well, we will still be in FIJI!!!

While traveling I am not nearly concerned with my physical stuff than I am my data, pictures, and files. If I loose a camera or it gets stolen it can be replaced, but I cant go back an retake my pictures! I would be devastated if lost them so I have put together my plan to keep everything safe. Here goes ~

Back it up!

We just purchase a portable hard drive that auto backs up everything on my laptop when it is plugged in. It holds 1 TB, which by my calculations is about 100,000+ pictures. That should cover my needs, although I am quick to snap quite a few photos. The only problem I see is that I am still carrying this around, an it still has the potential to get lost or stolen. I will keep my drive in a different bag than the laptop, but I still feel I need to be further backed up.

When there is good WiFi I plan to also dump my important stuff on to a cloud drive. I might consider doing only this, but I can’t always could on WiFi faster than a dial up modem while traveling to remote areas of the world. But when I can, I will upload to a drive like Amazon’s cloud drive.

Insured and protected

Travelers insurance covers the against stolen stuff, but that doesn’t cover the abuse Hannah and I will put on them. For that we are trying to put the equivalent of bike helmets on every device. Bags, boxes, and cases for Everything!

Documents

All of our important documents including itineraries, receipts, and home stuff, we can’t exactly strap a file cabinet to our back so… Gotta get it digital. We have scanned everything that we could possibly need and it’s on the laptop, and save in our cloud drive. So no matter what happens to our physical devices our papers should be safe, or at least accessible.

Security

Wireless signals while traveling are notorious for hacking and scamming. We feel security on the internet is a real concern, so we will be using a site back up service, and an just not using it for real important stuff. For our banking needs we will be using dedicated bank apps on our smart phones which should be more secure. These are typically more secure because they are bank specific and less likely to figured out by the bad guys (theoretically). We also have most of our banking being automatically taken care of. Everything else will be handled at home by our parents when we talk to them.

We have arranged our accounts in a way that at any given time we will only have $500 -$1000 available to us (or thieves) at any given time to minimize risk of ATM frauds. Most times we have heard you eventually get your money back but it’s a real hassle we really want to avoid.

We plan to go to the ATM a lot too, we feel if we keep smaller amounts of money on us we will have less risk and won’t lose as much in transfer fees/ exchange rates when moving from country to country. You might be asking yourself, frequent ATM transactions sounds like we will be spend a ton in fees? If you are thinking that, then you clearly haven’t heard of the most awesome ATM card in the world – The Charles Schwab no fee ATM!

What am I missing? What other counter measures do we need? Or am I crazy and now look like the guys from that TV show Dooms Day Prep-ers?

This Round’s Photo Roulette topic is…..

As The Sun Goes Down

The end of the day is my absolute favorite time to photograph. Sunsets are a big part of what got me interested in photography, so for our first time hosting this great little contest I couldn’t think of anything that I would rather pick for a topic. Lets see your best sunset shot!

I am looking for color & composition first and foremost! Pictures do not have to be limited to just landscapes with sun, as long as they relate to the theme of ‘As the sun goes down’. Please leave a short description of the location and some background on your special shot for the caption.

Some examples:

Thanks to Jeremy & Angie over at Living The Dream RTW for starting this competition, keeping it alive, and also for choosing our photo as the winner of the last round: “Your First Time”

Contest Overview

The contest rotates through travel and/or photography blogs as such, the winner of the previous round of Travel Photo Roulette hosts the subsequent round on their own blog. The new host then chooses the next theme, a generic keyword or phrase and players submit their interpretations of the theme over the course of the week of the contest.

At the end of the week, the hosting blogger chooses their favorite photo from the submissions and displays it as the week’s winning entry. They then include direction to the new host for the next round. Readers can attempt to lobby the author toward a certain photo via comments or the #PhotoRoulette hash-tag on Twitter – the author can accept or ignore any lobby as they see fit. The game is repeated with the winner hosting the following week’s game and choosing a phrase for new photo submissions.

Entry Guidelines

One submission per blog (so sites that have 2+ authors only get one entry).

Post processing is permitted, but photo altering (ie. Photoshopping) is not.

Abstract submissions welcomed as long as it fits within the interpretation of the chosen phrase. Remember, the hosting blogger chooses the winner, so if they cannot understand the submission, you might not win!

Please try and keep your images medium-sized and web-optimized (around 800px).

If you win, keep these in mind when choosing a new theme:

Keep phrases general so that all bloggers can participate. Specific items like “Eiffel Tower” should be avoided but rather made open-ended like “monuments.” For variety, it is okay to say focused things such as “monuments at night” which most of us have pictures of. Phrases can be generic ‘signs’, or abstract ‘religion’.

Abstract thoughts are appreciated, but keep it within the realm that all readers will understand. No “Kafka-esque”, or “Overlooking Creation”. Use something that is able to be interpreted by all.

After 1 year, phrases can be reused, however new photos must be submitted.

No obscene pictures or phrases allowed. Suggestive phrases and photography can be accepted, but please keep it within reason.

Keep the ideas and photos fresh!

Pictures from your entire portfolio are fair to submit. You do not have to take the photo within the week of the contest period to submit it.

Most importantly, all photographs must be your own.

One last rule, since this is a competition for travel and photography bloggers, you must have a travel/photography blog to enter. Sorry!

How to Submit Your Photos

To enter in the Photo Roulette competition simply leave a comment below with a link to the image (whether Flickr, Picasa or your own site) so it can be uploaded to this post. Don’t forget to provide a brief description or caption for the photo so the viewers can get a little background as to what’s happening.

Check back here throughout the week to see all the entries as they come in and feel free to comment on them. The contest runs for 7 days from today, with the submission dates being May 12th to May 19th. The winner will be announced a few days after the deadline, and they will host round #59.

Past Photo Roulette Winners and Hosts

The following is a list of the previously played rounds of the game and the hosting blogger for each. As the game has been running for a few years now, a few of the winners are no longer blogging and the posts have since been removed from the list below. Click the host’s link to go directly to that entry to see some stunning photographs from the chosen term/phrase!

Entries

The following are the entries into this week’s Photo Roulette! The post will be continually updated over the course of the week to add entries as they are brought in. Follow along and share on twitter with the hash-tag #PhotoRoulette to help promote the game!

Entry #1 – Wanderlusters.co.uk

“The Poor Knights are the site of a pristine marine reserve off the coast of northern New Zealand and the diving there is superb. It was Ben’s birthday and I’d treated us to a weekend live aboard to explore the volcanic environment and clear waters that surround the islands shores. Just as we came out on the deck to get our kit on the sky lit up in such a vivid display of color. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Ben said it was a birthday present from the heavens!”

Entry #2 – LivingTheDreamRTW.com

“One of my best sunset photos comes from Koh Lipe, Thailand. Our ferry to get to the island was taking much longer than normal, and as the sun slowly set behind the coast of Koh Lipe I knew it was still going to be quite some time more before we got to the other side. At least the sunset was pretty.”

Entry #3 – Two for the Road

Rialto is part of the Olympic National Park on the wild Pacific coast and it’s home to rocky outcrops, huge alpine trees, bald eagles and the most magical sunsets. We spent one amazing evening walking for a couple of miles along the beach, checking out the crazy colours in the rock pools and were then blown away by the sunset. When I took this photo some multi-day hikers were setting up camp for the night on the beach behind us, what a view from your tent!

Entry #4 – On The Luce

It was taken on the beach in a place called Soulac-sur-Mer, just up the coast from Bordeaux in the Haut Medoc wine region of France, from a bar on the beach along with a cold glass of white wine it was the perfect sunset experience!

Entry #5 – Gypsy Nesters

Sitting by the peaceful fort of St. Augustine watching the sunset is a beautiful way to spend an evening. I must have sat in the spot for three hours waiting for this silhouette and I have about fifty shots of differing contrasts to prove it!

Entry #6 Tripologist

Last year, I took the Trans-Siberian railroad from Beijing to Moscow. On the first night, I looked out the window and saw one of the most beautiful sunsets of my life. As we rode through Inner Mongolia and the Gobi Desert, I stuck my camera out the window of the moving train and captured one of my favorite sunset pictures I’ve ever taken.

Entry #7 – ChasingAdventure.ca

As pretty as sunsets are, we have very few sunset photos!
We rode our motorcycles up a tiny twisty road in Sorrento, Italy to find a hilltop restaurant and captured this shot during dinner!

Entry #8 – Turtles Travel Blog

The Mekong River provides a great backdrop for some amazing sunsets. This photo was taken in Cambodia. In the village of Kampi, boats shove off in the late afternoon when the Irrawaddy river dolphin is most active. We were treated to a spectacular sunset at the end of our voyage (we did see dolphins too).

Entry #9 – Go Travelzing

This was taken on the beach in Jamaica. I was there for a wedding and this was taken after the ceremony.

Entry #10 – A passion and a passport

This picture was taken on Jones Beach, Long Island, NY. While not an exotic location, it is one of my absolute favorites (this photo even topped any from the Greek Islands!). My then-boyfriend, now-husband didn’t understand why I had my camera (actually iPhone) out for so long, but I needed to in order to get the perfect shot!

Entry #11 – OTP Travel

While hitchhiking across western Mongolia. We stopped at a nomad camp to see if there was any dinner and chanced upon this scene.

Entry #12 – Globe-Trekking

This competition category was a little hard for me to choose, because I have a couple of really good sundown shots that would be great. In the end the Moai of Easter Island during sunset is one of my favorite shots..

Entry #13 – Backpacker Banter

Taken during a sunset surf session at the Pass in Byron Bay – my buddy Nic sat out back on his board watching the sunset into the ocean…

Entry #14 – fluent in frolicking

One of my best secret Maui budget tips is to buy yourself a beer at the ABC store at 505 Front Street in Lahaina than head out to the beach and watch the sunset. One of the island’s best luau’s is held there and you can watch the whole show from the beach for free. I was doing just that the night of this photo. As a girl born and raised on Maui I have seen my fair share of sunsets yet some still stop me in my tracks. This was one of them!

Entry #15 – The World is our district

Here’s a shot from today’s post. I caught a fellow climber watching the sunset from the Shira Plateau of Mt. Kilimanjaro:

Entry #16 – The Travel Bunny

always a sucker for a great sunset! Difficult to choose as I have quite a lot of sunset shots but I’m going for this one taken in Italy last year. Everyone in Sorrento just seemed to stop what they were doing and quietly enjoy the moments as the sun went down. This deep red sunset was stunning as the gull flew beautifully into shot…

Entry #17 – Breakaway Backpacker

This was a tough one… I have so many beautiful sunset photos, but this is one of my favs. Sunset in Boracay, Philippines.

Entry #18 – My Walk About

Last Fall I had a slew of bad things happen in my life, and I left for a couple days to New Mexico to see the Very Large Array. There is something very special about this remote area, and as I sat next to these gigantic machines as the sun set, a connectedness to the universe unlike I’ve experienced before washed over me.

Entry #19 – Ferreting Out The Fun

Shanghai at dusk. You can see the Bund, the charming riverside stretch famous for its colonial-era architecture, now dwarfed by sleek modern towers and a sprawling cityscape. The image seems to highlight the vast changes taking place in China, and is lent further realism — and maybe even romance — by the low-lying air pollution resulting from local industry. The fiery sunset is an exclamation point that dares you to wonder what tomorrow holds for China. I took the picture from the 87th floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center.

Entry #20 – Fly Icarus Fly

I shot this abandoned lobster shack in Ninh Van Bay, just off the coast of Nha Trang, Vietnam, as the sun was going down creating a hazy, dreamy study in shades of blue – the water, the mountains, the sky…

Entry #21 – Just Chuckin’ It

This photo is from Haiti. A small beach called Belly Beach in the north-eastern region of the country located close by Labadee, a resort owned by Royal Caribbean and fenced off from the rest of Haiti.

I remember sitting on this beach sipping a local beer and watching the crimson and orange set the sky afire. A small canoe paddled through the sparkling reflection on the ocean. It was the most beautiful sunset I had ever seen, and it was even more powerful given the fact that when you hear about Haiti, you are never told of such beauty.

Entry #22 – 12 Countries

This bad boy was taken in a beach town called Del Mar (famous for the fairgrounds with the same name) down in Southern California. People often come down to the end of the street during sunset to take in the amazing sight; however, I think I got the better view from my vantage point, with the sun just peeking in between the tree’s branches.

Entry #23 – Road Warrior

Our entry comes from a camel trek at sunset in beautiful northern Rajasthan. We took camels over the desolate desert and watched the sun set over the cold sand… Our entry is of one of our camels as we took a break to watch the sun disappear over the horizon.

Entry #24 – Canuckiwikate.com

On this particular night, the Saturday of the Easter long weekend, I had two friends visiting from the city. We’d piled into our 4 wheel drive and spent the late evening watching the sun disappear over the horizon while my boyfriend was out diving for Paua on the coast only accessible by locals. Once he finished, we completed the ’round the reef tour, by continuing on to Tanutanu beach and were in complete awe of the colours reflecting in the rock pools at low tide. I was more than happy to finally be able to share one of my favourite things about my expat home with friends.

Entry #25 – Trek Snappy

Danielle grabbed this amazing sunset on out first evening in El Nido, Palawan, Philippines. We’d only arrived there that afternoon, and after buying some beer and a bottle of tequila from a local store we were treated to this wonderful start to the evening. We’ve seen a few sunsets but this was pretty special (and so is El Nido).

Entry #26 – A Backpackers Tale

Sunset over the street markets and vendors of Old Cairo. In old Cairo you will find craftsmen and labors working away at trades that have been passed down for over 300 years.

Entry #27 – Life Outside of Texas

We just got back from an amazing trip to Fiji and while we were there we got this shot. I really love how you can see the difference between day and the sunset. This was taken on Taveuni Island, Fiji.

Entry #28 – Travel Transmissions

Although the tourist culture on the southern tip of Bali is kind of sickening, I liked how everyone clustered on the beaches to enjoy the sunset with a beer every evening. Watching and sometimes joining the surfers on Canggu Beach was one of my favorite things to do there.

Entry #29 – Jennywise Arcade

Even though I’ve traveled to some beautiful places and seen some incredible sunsets from Hawaii to Positano and Cartagena and Shi Shi Beach in Washington State, this is by far one of the most beautiful caught on camera, right down the road, at Hardings Beach on Cape Cod, Chatham, Massachusetts. I’ve left my photo on my facebook page- Jennywise Arcade. Great photos so far!!!

Entry #30 – Gallivantgirl.com

Last year, I took a roadtrip with my best mates along the Great Ocean Road, Australia. We timed our arrival at the Twelve Apostles just before sunset, so we could watch the sun go down over them. The colours were mental, a bird flew into shot, and it was just bloody beautiful.

Entry #31 – AfterGlobe

I took this photo in Kihei on the island of Maui our last night there. It was the end to a wonderful 15 day trip where we were married.

Entry #32 – Nomadbiba.com

I took this one at Long Beach near Tofino in Vancouver Island BC (Canada). It was one of the most spectacular sunsets I’ve ever seen, the color of the sky was just unreal! The water was a bit too cold for me (even if it was summer!) but there was plenty of people surfing and enjoying the waves.

Entry #33 – Globe Trotter Girls

We’ll go with this one which we took on the island of Langkawi in Malaysia last year – the sunsets on this island were just out of this world and I loved how the boat just appeared right in front of the setting sun.

Entry #34 – Food Travel Bliss

Even though I love to see the sun set and rise – I am still always surprised when I look back through our photos at just HOW MANY photos we have of that time of day, sometimes more than we do of us or anything else!! This is one of my favourites taken on a mountain outside of Kota Kinabalu, overlooking the city out the the South China Sea.

Entry #35 – Belizeadventure.ca

The Belize Barrier Reef allows for calm waters ideally for sailing and if you happen to be on a catamaran as the sun sets, it’s magical

Entry #36 – CalitoKenya

This picture was taken in Huahine, French Polynesia. It is such a peaceful island, you can swim all day in the warm water until it’s time to watch the amazing sunset over the calm lagoon while listening to the locals sing and play their ukeleles.

Ngala Lodge, The Gambia, West Africa – a romantic setting from where to watch the sun go down

Entry #38 – LaViajera

A bit grainy, as it’s from my point-and-shoot days, but here is an old photo of mine from Santorini, Greece. The sunsets on Santorini are infamous, and there is nothing like ending a day of strolling the hilly island with a souvlaki dinner as the sun sets. A beautiful place, filled with beautiful memories.

Entry #39 – Run Away Juno

My submission is from Galle fort, Sri Lanka. Yesterday, the sun created an amazing sunset. As the sun goes down, people starting to take pictures of the sky, and I took pictures of them. A beautiful night.

We like to travel with a cell phone for several reasons, most importantly safety and convenience. This tutorial breaks down how to stay connected on the cheap while wandering.

Unlocked Phone

An unlocked phone is a phone that is not set for a specific carrier like for example AT&T or Verizon, or any other major company. When you purchase a cell phone it almost always comes locked to your carrier. The best place I know of finding an unlocked phone is on a website like eBay. You can also buy them while traveling, I have seen phones for sale that claim to be unlocked. If you are tech savvy you can unlock your own phone too, if you have the right kind of phone there are lots of tutorials online to unlock.

Any style will work!

The Right Kind of Phone

This is important, if you don’t get a phone with the following feature you won’t be talking to anyone!

Must be GSM and take a SIM Card

Tri-Band (850/1800/1900 MHz) or Quad-Band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) The more bands the better!

Must be unlocked! If you buy a phone while traveling I would make them show you that it is truly unlocked with a few different sim cards before buying

Reduced Rates

Its best to check online which local carrier has the best deals for how you want to use the phone. For international calls many carriers have a few different prefixes to dial before the number, these prefixes dictate the quality of the call. They also set the price per minute, we typically use the cheapest and haven’t found the call quality bad at all. For example for the cheap rate to dial international you start by entering “00600″, or for higher quality connection (and higher price) dial “006″. Many times the instructions to add minutes or activate a card are in English, but if they are not it is worth finding a store owner that can help you cause it can be tricky.

If you are just looking for coverage for emergency calls and don’t plan to talk to much some carriers offer a free SIM Card. The cost for the card itself can be up to $5usd, so a freebie helps! I know for sure there is free ones in the Bangkok airport.

Its a great way to be able to call home, or for an emergency, and to arrange things with local people. Safe, convenient, and smart!

Still for the hearty traveler

The site is gaining popularity every year, but it is separated from the capital of Lima by some long bus rides, and add to that there is a limit of the number of people who are allowed up everyday it remains a bit more exclusive that other attractions. In an effort to preserve the grounds and the trail, only 500 people per day are allowed on the Inca trail. There are other trails and hikes to get you to the ruins, but by far the most famous is the Inca Trail.

Trekking

The traditional trek is a 4 day – 3 night hike high in to the Andes. It is high enough that you need time to adjust to the altitude before stating the hike, in fact most guide operators will require you to check in 2-3 days in advance to ensure you have had proper time to get used to being at the lower oxygen levels. They do this so they don’t have to deal with you getting sick or having to carry you Gringo ass down the mountain!

We are lucky enough to have some friends from home and abroad meeting us to challenge the climb, which will make it that much more special!

Some side line things to excited for are the chance to try some Guinea Pig, pet a llama, and chew some coca leaves!

We are all lucky enough to be born it a time where travel is easy. A few generations ago the only option for transcontinental travel was days or weeks on a boat. And just a generation or two ago, air travel was primarily for the rich. Now there are countless airlines to take you anywhere you want to go. Part of the reason for all of that is we are getting smarter, we are better engineers.

I love to fly, cause I know when I fly, I am on my way. On my way to a new destination. On my way to a new adventure.

I also love ingenuity my mind is always going. I have a piece of paper that says I am a mechanical engineer. It always amazes me, and simultaneously scares the crap out of me how a huge metal tube that is an airplane can get off the ground, and cruise several miles above the earth. In my spare time I like to find new uses for things and just to create and build things. I have been working on a motorized robot made from a picnic cooler for the last year or so. Hannah would probably <del>tell</del> complain to you about all the parts and pieces of things I have everywhere in our house. So when I stumbled on this video the other day I knew I had to share it, it is so amazing and creative.

In the video they have given everything wings! Even house hold appliances can now fly. It was also shot with some amazing back drops. It defiantly inspires me!

The video was created with Avios, a company focused on turning you everyday purchases into airline miles, another one of my favorite things to do! (Get it? Everything can fly!)

Remember if you are lucky enough to travel, you are lucky enough!

1. Who are you and where do you hail from? Talon & son Tigger. We’re from the US.

3. What jobs did you kick to the curb in order to travel? I was a hospice chaplain, working with the dying and their loved ones.

4. Explain your website name, where did it come from/how did you come up with it? Well, I have a few sites. The primary one is 1 Dad, 1 Kid, 1 Crazy Adventure (1Dad1Kid.com). I was trying to think of something memorable. The crazy adventure seemed quite apropos at the time because I figured people would think I was insane to quit my job and leave the States for an indefinite trip traveling the world with my young son as a single parent. I recently started a food blog (Travels4Yum.com). Food and culture are two of my favorite things about travel, so that blog focuses primarily on those. That name came about when I was trying to figure out a name that was catchy but still fun. It just kind of hit me, and when I saw it was available I snagged it.

The fun ?’s

1. What’s the most under-estimated country & why? Morocco. It just constantly surprises, and the people are absolutely amazing.

2. What’s your biggest travel mishap? We really haven’t had any big mishaps, but I’d probably say the bus ride from Guatemala to Honduras that was supposed to be 9 hours on a nice, air-conditioned bus but turned out to be 15 hours on crappy, cockroach-infested buses instead.

3. What luxuries did you forgoe in order to save for your travels? We didn’t really save much before we left since I was already planning on working as we travel (we are traveling indefinitely), but we started evaluating purchases by how many days lodging that would buy, how would we carry it in our packs, etc. We still do that while we travel. It’s a great formula.

4. What country has the best $1usd menu? What can one expect to get for $1usd? So far I’d have to say Thailand. Most street food can be purchased for just under $1, and it’s pretty filling and tasty. My faves would be “meat on a stick” (anything on a skewer) and sticky rice with mango (which is less than $1).
