24 Apr 2016 Rum, Wine, Beer, and some history too
Sounds like an interesting mix, doesn’t it? Well it is, Sydney is the oldest settlement in Australia, and the rocks district is where it all happened in the early days. We toured the historical Rocks with Urban Adventures on their guided walk through town called “When Rum Ran the Rocks”
The evening starts with some background on Australian history for us Americans as we walk the streets lined with buildings from centuries past. After our intro, we duck into a quaint little wine bar for our first of four stops.
Inside the sturdy old brick building sits a pretty advanced wine tasting equipment, complete with dispensing machines and a few tastes pours of wine.
With of taste buds warmed by the wine it was time for the second stop, for dinner. In true Australian style we got to try our hand on the grill cooking up out choice of steaks. To accompany the beef we got a few glasses of a nicely hopped pale ale.
Throughout the night we were walking, drinking, and learning. Between restaurants, we stopped at historical sights and see how the settlement developed and how alcohol helped shape the city.
After dinner, we stopped for a pint of local microbrewery at Harts Pub and then finished the night with a nice warming cup of Belgian ale at the Heritage Belgium Beer Cafe. If you like a little history with your beer you might like this tour of the Rocks!
