Helicopter Ride Over Victoria Falls Zambia

Helicopter Ride Over Victoria Falls Zambia

Since the start of our RTW trip, one of the top things on our bucket list has been a Victoria Falls Zambia helicopter tour. There are tons of things to do in Victoria Falls, but taking a Victoria Falls helicopter tour was #1 on our list.

We finally got the chance as part of our 43-day overland safari through Africa. We took off from the Zambian side of the falls aboard a 4 person Victoria Falls helicopter tour with Safari Par Excellence for a flight of a lifetime.

As soon as the blades reached full speed, we were off the helipad, heading toward the largest sheet of falling water in the world: Victoria Falls.

The first half of our orbit in the helicopter focused on the main attraction, the falls. We made passes over the falls from both sides, giving all passengers amazing views of what the locals call Mosi-oa-Tunya, or the smoke that thunders.

Our visit to the falls had us there just after the rainy season when the falls were at their absolute maximum. Several major southern African rivers converge to feed the falls, and the water comes from thousands of miles away. The water travels from so far away that the peak levels are several weeks after the rainy season finishes.

After traveling thousands of miles, the water makes its way to the Zambezi River and then finally over the edge. It does so in spectacular fashion and is rightfully one of the world’s wonders: Victoria Falls.

We opted for the 30-minute Victoria Falls helicopter flight, which took us through the canyons and over the rapids after the falls. The trip inside the massive cantor walls was surreal.

We cruised around between the vertical rock faces. We felt like we were in a video game. The control the pilot had in the small helicopter was incredible and made for an amazing flight and memory.

If you find yourself anywhere near the falls, it is worth a visit, and we highly recommend seeing it from above on a Victoria Falls helicopter tour. It’s awe-inspiring anyway you see it, but nothing beats the view from a helicopter.

Stay tuned for a video post from our flight high above the falls.

If you are looking at taking a safari on your own, we cannot recommend Acacia Africa enough.

We just did a helicopter flight over Vic Falls last month, what an amazing experience! I was really scared to do it (I hate flying!) but there's no better way to appreciate how beautiful the Falls are unless you're seeing them from above!

Wow, what a fabulous experience. I've only been in a helicopter once and that was over Mt Rushmore. It is amazing the views you can get and since there are not many people with you it feels like a very personal experience.

Thanks for sharing your great pictures. I'll certainly have to remember helicopter rides if I head to Victoria Falls in the near future.

That's amazing! I remember when I went to Iguazu Falls, I got a quick glimpse of the falls from the airplane and felt super excited. I can't imagine being that up close and personal, especially in a helicopter!
