Even seasoned travelers get it wrong sometimes

Our biggest travel planning fail of our travel careers’ came at the start of our round-the-world trip. We had everything planned out to what felt like the minute of our trip, we didn’t leave enough time to enjoy or fully explore the destinations we found ourselves in. We spent months, literally months, planning and planning. We felt like we knew the destinations so well it was almost odd when we actually got there. That’s why sometimes it’s fun to let someone else plan it, and you go in with a different mindset to actually enjoy it.

One of the most difficult trips to plan so far this year was our trip to Myanmar earlier this year. We ran into a complete lack of information while trying to find out how to get around the southern provinces. Unfortunately, we had to give up that part of the trip because we just couldn’t find out how to get from point A to point B reliably. This might be our biggest travel regret of 2017. The pristine beaches and uninhabited islands of southern Myanmar will have to remain a blank page until next time.

Sometimes even when your plan works out like clockwork with the exception of one single detail, it can go off the rails quickly – Like the time we returned the car… at the wrong airport… with only 90 minutes before a flight… when the right airport is an hour away. Who knew Frankfurt has a second airport that’s called Frankfurt-Hahn, that’s really in Hahn (an hour outside Frankfurt). Those are the kind of details you wish you had someone looking out for you.
