If you’re searching for the best burgers in Playa del Carmen, you’re probably in Mexico now and had tacos the last three days in a row, lol. The good news is there are some amazing burgers in Playa del Carmen. Trust us. We’re kind of burger snobs….
The restaurant scene in Playa del Carmen is great. There is something for everyone. I personally could eat tacos from El Fogon 5 days a week. They are the best tacos in Playa del Carmen. But those other two days a week, I need a burger, pizza, Italian, just a different flavor.
We used to live in Playa del Carmen, and now we go back for at least one month a year. Usually, this is the month of February (Wisconsin winters suck, so we escape them). We’ve done our fair research and eaten at the best restaurants in Playa del Carmen. Here are our top burger joints in Playa del Caren.
1. MU Burgerhouse
Satisfy your burger cravings with a visit to MU Burger. This is our go-to burger joint in Playa del Carmen. Everything is great here. We love the curry mayo dipping sauce too!
They are considered one of the best burgers in the Playa del Carmen, with sky-high juicy burgers that are good enough to rival anything you’d find in the US. Try their iconic La Lolita burger (blue cheese, arugula, caramelized onions), or try the gourmet Nadie Mas Que Tu burger (fried burrata, homemade pesto, and balsamic vinegar).
MU Burgerhouse has two locations in the city. Their restaurant on 10th ave is centrally located next to many tourist hotspots, so it’s easy to reach if you’re out sightseeing. The 40th ave location is a little off the beaten path, although it has a charming courtyard where you can sit back and relax. We usually dine in at the 40th Ave location and get delivery from either or.
We’ve gotten delivery with them too, ordered right online. Food came fast, and the fries were surprisingly good for being delivered.

2. 3XL Burger
As its name implies, 3XL Burger is a great place to go for massive, over-the-top burgers. You choose the meat (beef, pork, chicken, tuna, veggie), the size of the patty (original, 2XL, or 3XL), and any extras and toppings you want. Bacon, pineapple, avocado, and pulled pork are just a few of their tasty topping options that you can add.
While 3XL might be famous for their burgers, they also have other delicious entrée options, like hot dogs, Buffalo wings, BBQ ribs, and tostones. Make sure to wash it down with a creamy milkshake – their carrot cake milkshake and cheesecake milkshakes are to die for. If those flavors are a bit too adventurous for you, then you can order a chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry shake instead.

3. Parrilla Mucho Gusto
This laid-back Argentinian restaurant is one of the best places in Playa del Carmen for meat lovers. Start with a traditional appetizer like Argentinian sausage or meat-stuffed pastries before choosing one of their delectable entrées like beef Napolitano, flank steak, short ribs, or rib-eye. If you’re looking for something on the lighter side, Parrilla Mucho Gusto also serves salads, vegetable platters, and sandwiches.
However, they’re mainly known for their gourmet burgers, like the mouthwatering blue cheeseburger with caramelized onions. You also can’t go wrong with the BBQ burger, which is made of sirloin and topped with bacon, or their power burger piled high with bacon and a fried egg.

4. Harry’s Prime Steakhouse & Raw Bar
As one of the highest-rated restaurants in Playa del Carmen, Harry’s is not to be missed during your visit to Playa del Carmen. Part steakhouse, part raw seafood bar, this upscale dining establishment is known for its creative menu, fresh ingredients, and top-notch customer service team.
For starters, try their mini tuna toasts, beet ceviche, golden shrimp Roca, or roasted artichokes. Although there are plenty of delicious meat and seafood dishes to choose from, we recommend their USDA prime beef burger (it also won’t break the bank). You won’t find any fancy toppings on this guy – just cheddar cheese, lettuce, and tomato – which means you can just enjoy the deliciously simple flavors of one of Playa’s best burgers.

This no-frills burger joint is quickly becoming one of the most popular restaurants in downtown Playa del Carmen. Buzzing with tourists and locals late into the night, Branton Burger Grill has over a dozen different types of burgers. You can order a simple cheeseburger or chicken breast burger or go for something more outrageous like their blue cheeseburger, grilled tuna burger, or portobello mushroom burger.
Grab a table in their open-aired dining room or relax in their outdoor courtyard. Every order is grilled fresh right in front of your eyes, so you know you’ll be getting one of the best burgers in town! We often order online and pick it up. It’s really close to our condo in the Zazil Ha area of Playa del Carmen.

We love Shark Burgers for their nautical-themed dining room, strong cocktails, and, most of all, their unbelievable burgers! After you choose your favorite, you’ll pick the amount of beef you want – small, grande, double, or even a triple (which is almost 1.5 pounds of meat, definitely good for sharing).

7. Sonora Grill
As one of the trendier restaurants on this list, Sonora Grill is a great place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or any other special occasion. Start the night with a cocktail in the bar, then grab a table curbside underneath the illuminated lanterns and lush vegetation. They are located right on 5th Ave. We walked by this restaurant a hundred times and are so glad we finally dined in!
There are several different burgers on their main menu – and you can’t go wrong with any of them. The Sanchez Burger is smothered with provolone cheese and crispy onions and is a great choice for more traditional burger lovers. If you’re interested in trying something different, try their Wellington Burger. It’s a beef patty wrapped entirely in a doughy crust and baked Wellington-style. They also serve plant-based burgers, which are ideal for both vegetarian and vegan diners.
