Once you’ve had your fill of the best tacos in Playa del Carmen, you might be hungry for something else. We get it…we, too, can only eat tacos five days a week! Everyone loves pizza. Here is where to find the best pizza in Playa del Carmen.

After a day on the beach, getting pizza delivered or just going out for pizza is all that you want. I made sure to link the menus for the restaurants in Playa del Carmen that have them posted on their website.

Handmade pizza at Trattoria del centro - best pizza in Playa del Carmen Mexico

1. Trattoria del Centro

You’d be hard-pressed to find a better Italian restaurant in the Playa than Trattoria del Centro. Centrally located just a few steps off 5th ave, this modern dining establishment serves a variety of traditional Italian favorites, including pasta, risotto, and of course, pizza.

The pizza at Trattoria del Centro is made Naples-style, which means the dough is thin and crunchy at the base, and light and fluffy in the crust. It’s tossed in their brick wood-burning oven for a few minutes and comes out piping hot. Classic marinara, prosciutto and mushrooms, spicy diavola, and white gorgonzola are just a few of the famous pizza types on their menu. You can also order calzones or pizza-style focaccia breads.

On our last trip, we took my parents here twice in one week. It’s one of the best restaurants in Playa del Carmen. We all agreed they have the best pizza in Playa del Carmen, and their pasta is amazing too. They don’t have a formal website or official menu for me to link to, sadly, but trust me, it’s the best pizza in Playa del Carmen, and the prices are affordable. We also love all the waiters there!

  • Hours: Daily 5pm – 10pm
  • Address: Calle 26 entre avenida 10 y avenida 5
  • Price Range: 200 – 250 pesos
  • Menu (photos posted on their Facebook page )

deep dish pizza with tomato sauce and basil on top at don Chendos of Playa del Carmen - Top Pizza restaurants

2. Don Chendo

Specializing in authentic Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, Don Chendo is a beloved restaurant located right in the heart of downtown Playa del Carmen. Their homemade pizza dough is a century-old family recipe all the way from Naples, which was brought over to New York before making its way down south to Mexico. They have traditional types of pies like Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken, as well as unique flavors like Shrimp Lover’s, Mexicana, or Loaded Meatball.

If pasta is more up your alley, then you absolutely have to try their Double Butter Fettuccine Alfredo, which is made with garlicky Alfredo sauce, parmesan cheese, and of course, butter! You can also try their Chicken Mexitalian Pasta, which combines the flavors of Mexican and Italian cuisine.

It is a smaller restaurant, I am guessing like ten tables or so. You can make reservations by calling or sending a message on Whatsapp (https://wa.me/+5219842132196 click there to open up in Whatsapp).

Don Chendu wins for the best Playa del Carmen pizza if you love thick crust or Chicago Style. We usually visit at least once a month. They serve gluten-free pizza on Fridays only (slight chance of leftover dough for Saturday, so you could ask). My mother-in-law said it was the best gluten-free pizza she has ever had!

  • Hours:
    • Monday, Wednesday – Sunday 2 pm – 9:30 pm
    • Closed Tuesday
  • Address: 30 Avenida Nte. Calle 24
  • Price Range: 200 – 300 pesos

3. La Famiglia

La Famiglia is a modern pizza joint right off of Playa del Carmen’s famous 5th avenue, so it’s easy to stop by for a quick bite after hitting the beach or roaming the city. Everything on their menu is made with the finest and freshest ingredients, including their hand-tossed salads, handmade pasta, and wood-fired pizzas.

They serve over 40 different types of pizza, so there’s guaranteed to be something on the menu for everyone in your group. Quatro Stagioni, Capricciosa, Vegetarian, and Gorgonzola are just a few of their star favorites. If you’re looking for authentic Italian pizza, La Famiglia is your place. They accept reservations. Call to make a reservation.

  • Hours: Daily 10 am – 2 am
  • Address: 10 Avenida Sur 10, on the corner
  • Price Range: 200 – 250 pesos

4. Piola

The sleek, colorfully decorated Piola is one of our favorite places to grab a drink and a slice of pizza. The dough is prepared by scratch every day before it’s dressed to your liking (using Italian-grown tomato sauce and 100% milk cheese) and baked in a wood-fired oven.

Try the Fugazzeta Salmon (smoked salmon and cream cheese), the Mexico (chorizo and poblano chilis), or the Pastorella (sausage, pineapple, and habanero hot cream). The best time to come is after sunset when the restaurant transforms into a bustling nightlife venue filled with solid cocktails, pumping music, and gourmet eats.

We love their location. It’s super convenient for those staying in the Zazil Ha area. It’s right off of 5th Ave on 38th, which we all know 38th is our prettiest street in Playa del Carmen.

They offer a gluten-free pizza option daily, but my mother-in-law wasn’t a big fan of it. It was a really thin crust.

  • Hours: Daily 12 pm – 11 pm
  • Address: Calle 38 Nte. lt 2-local 1, Centro, 77710
  • Price Range: 170 – 300 pesos

5. Romeo Trattoria Pizzeria

Romeo Trattoria Pizzeria is the best place to come if you’re in a particularly hungry mood. Their menu has an astounding number of authentic Italian dishes, and they serve everything from salads, soups, homemade pasta, stuffed ravioli, seafood, and, you guessed it – gourmet pizza!

You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. They have the best thin-crust pizza in Playa del Carmen. While the pizzas are meant to be shared between two people, hungry diners might be able to finish one off on their own.

We recently ordered from them via Whatsapp. They have their own delivery drivers. It was super easy to order, and delivery was prompt.

  • Hours: Daily 1pm – 11pm
  • Address: Calle 4 Nte 150, entre 15 Avenida Nte y 10 Avenida Nte
  • Price Range: 170 – 300 pesos

6. Restaurante Ambasciata D’ Italia

Despite having a prime spot on the bustling touristy walkway of 5th Avenue, Restaurante Ambasciate D’Italia is surprisingly one of the most authentic Italian restaurants in Playa del Carmen. The Italian-born owners opened this place in 2008 and have won over the hearts of both locals and tourists with their pasta and pizzas.

Their wine menu is also particularly noteworthy, with the majority of bottles coming directly from Italian wine country (although there are also plenty of local wines if you would rather try something from the area). Reservations can be made online.

  • Hours: Daily 12 pm– 1 am
  • Address: On the corner of 5th Ave and Calle 24 Nte
  • Price Range: 150 – 250 pesos
  • Menu

7. Salento

Don’t be fooled by Salento’s low-key décor – they are one of the most beloved pizza joints in all of Playa del Carmen. Their pizza tastes exactly like what you would find in the heart of Naples. Take just one bite of the doughy crust, aromatic sauce, and freshly grated cheese, and we swear your tastebuds will be jumping for joy.

If that’s not convincing enough, Salento is also one of the most affordable Italian restaurants in Playa del Carmen. You can get a full meal along with a glass of wine or ice-cold beer for a fraction of what you would pay at other restaurants.

Reservations and orders can be called in. They have take-out options as well.

  • Hours: Tuesday – Sunday 3 pm– 11 pm
  • Address: Avenida 46 Norte (CTM) y Calle Flamingos
  • Price Range: 80 – 150 pesos

8. Basilico Pizzeria Italiana – Permanently Closed

If you go too fast, you’ll probably walk right past this charming little pizza place, which is one of the best hidden gems in all of Playa del Carmen. There’s minimal seating (just a few barstools inside and a handful of tables outside), although you can see the chef’s cooking from the open kitchen.

You have your choice between a variety of traditional toppings, like pepperoni, mushrooms, prosciutto, arugula, and tomatoes. It may be a bit off the beaten path, but Basilico Pizzeria Italiana is a wonderful spot for authentic thin-crust pizza and stuffed calzones.

  • Hours: Daily 12:30 pm – 12 am
  • Address: Calle 34 Nte 18
  • Price Range: 80 – 150 pesos
