Where Can You Get An Egypt Visa On Arrival?

Egypt Visa On Arrival

Visa on arrivals can be obtained at an Egyptian port of entry (land borders and Egyptian airports.) We obtained our Egypt Visa on arrival at the Cairo International airport. Next time we travel to Egypt we plan on having our visas arranged with iVisa in advance. That way we know for sure we have the visa in hand before traveling. Whenever you show up to a country expecting a visa on arrival you are running the risk that you could be denied it.

BUT if you want to have your Egyptian visa in hand before you travel click here for iVisa who arranges Egypt visas for a service fee of $25 USD for passport holders from USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, etc. They arrange visas for all nationalities, prices may vary. This is super cheap and you won’t have to worry about having exact change or USD on you. Please do not email us/comment below asking how to get a visa, instead click here

Where Do I Get The Visa On Arrival?

When landing at the airport go to the visa on arrival window BEFORE getting in the queue for immigration. Here you will give them $25 USD and they will give you a visa on arrival sticker. Place the sticker on a blank page in your passport and get in the immigration queue. That’s it, get your stamp, collect your luggage, and head off exploring Egypt!

money

$25 USD only no other currencies will be accepted.  It’s best to have exact change, it will only make things easier. DO NOT plan on using your credit card you CANNOT pay by credit card or with any other currency than USD.

We have been contacted by many readers time and time again who have tried to get an Egypt visa on arrival and didn’t have USD cash and they all have said no other currency allowed. If you cannot come up with $25 USD then you will have to purchase a visa when exiting Egypt for $50 USD, this is what we have been told by readers and something we didn’t experience.

Where to stay in Cairo – Recommended Cairo Hotels

It is best to have your first few nights in Cairo prebooked, as once you leave the airport you will see how chaotic Cairo is. We would also highly recommend having your hotel or a driver meet you at the airport. This will get a trip to Egypt off on the right foot. The traffic in Cairo is insane, you’ll appreciate having something pre-booked with AC. We spent 4 nights in Cairo on our trip to Egypt, here are some hotels in Cairo we’d recommend.

There are over 200 Airbnb listings in Cairo with luxury condos only costing a fraction of a hotel. Renting an apartment you’ll be able to cook a meal or two and you’ll have tons more room than a standard hotel room.

Airbnb first-timers, if you sign up through my referral link you get $40 credit when you book your first trip! –>> sign up here! If you already have an account register a second account for your travel partner to get $40 off your next trip.

Recommended Cairo Tours and Things To Do In Cairo

If you are planning a visit to the Great Pyramids you’ll be spending at least a night or two in Cairo. When planning out your time in Cairo don’t try and do too much in one day. The traffic in Cairo is terrible and you could easily miss something if you didn’t allow enough time between tours. Here are a few recommended tours you can book in advance on Viator.com I prefer to book a few things in advance that way I am not haggling for a fair price and it’s less local currency to take out of the ATM.

  • Giza Pyramids and Sphinx Tour from Cairo Airport during a layover, book here $36
  • Giza Pyramids and Sphinx Tour from Cairo Half Day tour, book here $8
  • Dinner Cruise on the Nile with Belly Dancing Show from Cairo, book here $53
  • Private Full Day Tour visiting Giza Pyramids, Transfers & lunch, book here $37

  1. I am a us citizen going to Egypt with us passport valid for 3 months and I have the on arrival visa. Can I enter Egypt noting that I have no time to renew my passport and I will stay 1 month only ?

  2. I’m Nigerian and will be traveling via cairo with an 11 hour layover. Is there an airport inside the hotel where I can stay? Can I obtain visa on arrival to lodge at the le meridian?

  3. I live in Egypt (Sharm) and the entry visa you can pay for in USD, Euros or Sterling, it’s not just dollars, never has been. The clerk at Cairo airport takes a small commission but Sharm they don’t. Visiting Sharm you don’t need a visa if you’re staying for 2 weeks or less and staying within South Sinai.

    • Would it be possible to receive a visa once you get in through the border? We didn’t need a visa to get in, but now that we are here in Sharm we would like to go to Cairo, any suggestions on how to obtain one from within the country?

  4. Is it possible for a Canadian passport holder to get the Egypt visa sticker and the sinai stamp at Cairo International Airport?

  11. Can you still obtain a visa on Arrival with an american passport in January 2018?
We are flying in 2 days…How Long does the eVisa approval takes?
    Thanks in advance

  12. Arrive on Wed Feb 5 from Marrakech at 5 a.m. in Cairo and have a flight to Luxor at 6:40 a.m. Will the Visa window be open then. And is it realistic to make my flight. Or do you know how I can find this out?
Thanks much . Love your blog!!

    • If flights are landing the visa window should be open. Bring exact US cash to make things quicker. Last time we were through here it was a very quick process and the airport security in Egypt is less intense and shouldn’t be a problem to make this. If you start to cut it close, just inform airport staff you have a tight connection and they should be able to help. Safe Travels and enjoy Egypt!

  13. We are arriving on Feb 7 at 4:50 a.m. at Cairo airport and catching a 6:30 a.m. flight to Luxor. Will the Bank kiosks be open then?
    tnx much

  15. soy de Panamá y quisiera saber si puedo aplicar a la visa llegando a Egipto ya que en mi país no hay embajada de Egipto

  16. Thank you so much for sharing this info! I am transitting through Cairo this month on a mileage run only and needed to know about the visas. No other place online was I able to find info this precise and up to date!!

  17. I want to go to egypt I’m from colombia I would like to know about the visa. If is posssible to buy on arrival. Many thanks

  18. Thank you for a very helpful page.
Just one question – apart from the $US on arrival, is a photo also required?
    Cheers

    • We didn’t have to give them a passport photo, however, we always have a few extra passport photos ready just in case. Most places that require a passport photo can sell you one there, but of course, the price is much more than if you were to have one taken elsewhere.

  19. So is the visa $60 or still $25?

Also, if I bring euros (since people here have mentioned it as an alternative to US dollars, how much should it be in exact change?

    • The visa regulations change frequently depending on your nationality, the only resource I would trust is to contact the embassy directly to get current information for Egypt visa on Arrival.

  20. A russian friend of mine was asking about Do russian still can have visa on arrivel ? Or they need to apply in the Egyptian embassy for it before coming ?

    • Before traveling we always advise checking with the Egyptian Embassy to see the latest Egypt visa rules so that you don’t run into any surprises when trying to get an Egypt visa on arrival. Safe travels.

  21. Going to Egypt for a 7 day trip this month end; all arrangements have been made except for visa which i have been promised by the tourism agency here in India that it will be on arrival as we are traveling by Egypt Air. But a quick search revealed to me that Egypt Air discontinued VOA and that Indians should have visa before traveling to Egypt. The tourism agency is however confident that VOA will be provided and that they will pay for the same.

    • It is best to check the official government websites for both your country and of Egypt to get accurate information. Do Not trust unofficial web sites because they are likely just trying to scare you into buying an Egypt Visa with them. Hope everything works out and you have a great trip!

    • Vivek, did you get visa on arrival. My wife and I are going for honeymoon and we are on same boat. We do not have a visa and we are heading for it in 7 days. Thank you for replying

  22. Really it is confused. I will visit Egypt next month but till now iam not sure from all of that. Visa on arraival or fro the embassy US cuurency or can with Euro cause i live in Europe. I called the embassy and they said can on arraival but they said only for 25€ but i heared it is now for €60 plus i have to have US currency onlye!!
I got sick of all of that and i think after this trip i won’t visit this country again. Better to go to Turkey or Tunisia or Israel.

    • For your Egypt visa you will need $25 US cash. The visa process for the other countries you listed is just as difficult if not more so depending on your citizenship.

  23. We had been in Zanzibar ( Tanzania) last September and the Visa on arrival is payed only with Credit Card ( 50 US$ ) .

  24. It’s nice to see all the helpful information on this website.

But one thing that has confounded me regarding Egyptian VISAs is all the conflicting information that’s floating around. The Egyptian consulates make no mention at all of any process of obtaining a VISA at the airport. I even called the Egyptian embassy in Washington DC and they explicitly stated that you have to get a VISA in advance.

    See:
    http://egypt.embassy-online.net/Egypt-Consulate-General-Houston.php
    http://www.egyconsulatela.com/en/visas/

It almost seems like a scam where they drive more business to companies like CIBT and itseasy. Nobody wants to plan an international trip only to be denied boarding/entry. To complicate matters there are rumors that the $25 VISA at the airport process is (or already had) going away.

Why in the world don’t the Egyptian consulates simply document your options in black and white on their websites versus having to use word of mouth, rumor and innuendo?

    • The sites you listed do not look like an official website and I would not count on them for accurate information. They look like they are trying to profit from giving people misinformation. It’s best to check the US government site to get the best info on Egypt Visa on Arrival if you are coming from America also check the official Egyptian site to be sure, but as of now it seems you should still be able to get a visa on arrival at the airport for Egypt as an American.

  25. Arriving Cairo tomorrow, will transit overnight and then. For nearly a year now have been looking and searching for a site tat spells it out clearly and precisely. Congratulations, I found it. Thanks for the info.

  26. Please confirm if tourist visa can be obtained at airport for a citizen of Trinidad &Tobago WI..
Note, Egyptian national residing here inform me its that way . Since we do not have a middle eastern embassy in my county.

    • It is always best to check both your countries official website and Egypt’s official website to be certain. Rules change frequently.

    • Every passport holder has different rules, we are Americans and can only write about our experience. Please check the website and see what the Egypt visa rules are for Indian passport holders. Safe travels.

  27. I want to go to egypt I’m from colombia I would like to know about the visa. If is posssible to buy on arrival. Many thanks

    • As of now, it doesn’t seem Colombians can get a visa on arrival for Egypt, but things are always changing. It’s best to check the Egyptian and Colombian government websites before traveling. Good luck & safe travels!

  28. Hi
I read on a site that if you have an Israel visa in your passport and/or you are coming into Cairo from Israel that you will be denied entry. Is this correct?

    • Israel typically won’t stamp your passport when you enter. We visited Israel before going to Egypt and they printed a slip of paper instead of stamping our passports. I have heard if you have an Israel stamp in your passport it can cause issues traveling to certain countries and this is why they don’t stamp them anymore. Let me know if you find out other. We visited Israel March 2016 and then went to Jordan back to Israel and then flew from Tel Aviv to Cairo via Amman.

  29. I´m from Costa Rica, I want to know if I could obtain an Egypt visa on arrival at the Cairo International airport at the bank kiosks before the immigration counters.

Also, there´s necessary to get the yellow fever vaccination or it´s not required??

    • Please always double check the current Egpyt visa rules as they are different for every nationality. We weren’t asked for yellow fever in 2016 but we had it on hand if needed. Safe travels.

  30. Hi All, According to our information, Please be informed that The Entry Visa to Egypt will be increased from July 1st 2017 to be 60$ instead of 25$.
This Info was confirmed to us last week by The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism through an official letter sent to our travel agent office in Cairo.
    Regards
    Hamad Fathy

  31. My husband and I just landed in Cairo yesterday from Canada, and I wish someone had posted the following in big red letters because somehow we missed it: YOU MUST HAVE USD CASH FOR VISA ON ARRIVAL!!!! They would not take credit card…there were 3 ATMs nearby but they also would not take Egyptian Pounds, Canadian or British Pounds. So we were stuck going in circles between the visa counter and immigration for over 1 hour. We had money in our checked bags but of course immigration is before baggage so we could not get it. Finally after 4 immigration officers and 1 hour later…they told us we can get a visa on EXIT. So now when we leave Cairo in 3 weeks we need to pay US 50 for both of us to leave the country. Hope this helps future travelers.

    • Yeah I always tell people bring EXACT USD. I have never been to an airport immigration that takes credit card so I wouldn’t ever plan on using it. Sorry you didn’t read our article before so you wouldn’t have to go this hassle. Safe travels in Egypt and good luck with the exit visa.

    • We paid with USD exact cash and this is what we advice. I don’t know for sure if they do or don’t take credit card but we personally don’t think they do. We have never seen an immigration at an airport take credit card. It is best to bring USD with you.

  32. Just back back from Egypt last week. Visa on arrival was simple. But make sure you have euros or US dollars to pay the fee. No credit or Egypt currency accepted

  33. Hi, I’m holding a Canadian Passport, Travelling to Cairo next week, will i get the on-arrival visa at Cairo Airport

  34. I travelled to Cairo on December 2016 and I got visa on arrival hassle free, only have with you exact cash ($25). That’s it.

  35. I live in Georgia, U. S. and my husband is Egyptian and still in Tanta, Egypt as we are working on his immigration to come to the U. S the first two times I went I wad able to get my visa in the Cairo airport, the third time I had to get my visa before I left the U.S. ,im really excited that i can get it in the airport again as it is much cheaper and ill be bring my kids with me this summer for the vacation of their lives, they are so excited to see all the sites and the family in Egypt. Shukran (thank you) for posting that we can get visa at airport.

    • Glad we could help! Getting the visa at the airport was really easy but make sure to check with the state department website before the trip as the rules change all the time. We traveled to Egypt in March 2016.

      Safe travels,

  36. Hey there I’m
Canadian heading to egypt this week last minute . Some websites are saying that on arrival Visa’s do not exist anymore and they have to be arranged ahead of time. I can’t seem to find accurate information . Thanks !!!

    • We traveled to Egypt March 2016 and obtained our visa at the Cairo airport. We were getting on a Viking River cruise trip and they wanted us to use their visa service to get our Egypt visas but it was way more money. We opted to get the visa on our own and had no issues, just make sure to have exact cash this will make the process easier. Safe travels.

  37. VOA works pretty well at CAI and, yes, exact change is recommended (I only had $100). The Le Meridien Pyramids recommendation is also good; I stayed there because I am SPG Platinum and got an excellent suite upgrade with Pyramids view which made it better than any view-less room at the Four Seasons in Cairo.

    • We advise you to check with your local government websites to confirm the visa rules for your nationality. We are American and the Egypt visa on arrival was available and easy for us. Hopefully, you can travel to Egypt too, it’s an amazing country.

    • I believe Albania is allowed. Kosovars require a visa, as do Bosnians and Montenegrins (who need a lot of visas, surprisingly).

  38. I don’t see my Vietnam here in list. Please advise whether Vietnamese can apply for Egypt visa on arrival, I want to go there in this December. Thanks
