It shouldn’t surprise you that Hannah found her way to the giant Cat exhibit in Cali Colombia named “Gatos del Rio. If you haven’t realize by now… She kinda has an obsession with fur balls.
In a city full of art, one of the most recognized as a sign of the city is the large installment of fiberglass fuzz balls! 17 in all make up the ’Gatos del rio’ of Cali.
At the front of the exhibit there is one 15ft (5m) golden Gato, followed by a mix of creatively painted and themes cats.
My favorite was ‘Siete Vida’, which is the pink cat that has seen better days. Having spent 7 of his nine lives. It sports an eye patch, a paw cast, bolts in the other leg, and covered in band-aids.
How to get to the Gato Del Rio in Cali
The cats are hanging out next to the river near Avenida 6 and Calle 30.
From the San Antonio neighborhood:
Head to Calle 4, which is located one block west of the main street, Calle 5. From there take a slight right across Calle 2 on to Carrera 3. On Carrera 3 you will pass a park and some upscale restaurants, about halfway through the park make a right turn on to Calle 30, there is a road bridge that will take you across Avenida 6. It is a busy stretch of road here be careful. From the end of the bridge you should see the main cat.
We stayed just outside San Antonio area in the Miraflores district at Aguacanale Hostel. We found it to be a good area to explore from, everything that we wanted to see we walked to. We put on about 40 miles on our sneakers in just 4 days!
