1. Onlywood Pizzeria

Onlywood Pizzeria is a family-owned and operated neighborhood haunt. It’s a traditional trattoria-style spot that first opened in 2012. The shining star of the space is the massive 100% authentic brick oven imported straight from Napoli. It can reach up to 1000 degrees, which is ideal for Neapolitan pies.

All the ingredients are totally Italian, down to the imported San Marzano sauce. They even make their own mozzarella using an ancient recipe. There’s a long list of specialty creations and a new one to try each day. For a classic, order the Acciughe, and for something slightly more daring, go for the Pistachio.

2. Clements Wood-Fire Trolley Pizzeria

What started as making pizza out of a refurbished vintage trolley in 2014 has since grown into a full-service restaurant. Century-old artisan traditions are used to create perfectly cooked pies. The ingredients are fresh, and the dough is left to rise for 36 hours, giving it that ideal Neapolitan crust texture.

It’s a lively and laid-back spot, often blasting rock tunes, and there’s sidewalk seating as well. Their specialty is the Honey Bacon Pizza, and trust me when I say you won’t want to miss out on it.

3. Duetto Pizza and Gelato

Duetto is all about bringing locals and tourists together for that perfect slice of pizza. It’s locally owned and operated, and they’ve won many awards over the years. You can order a single slice or a whole pie here. The dough is made fresh daily with semolina and hits that sweet spot of being not too thick and not too thin.

The Polpette, which translates to “meatballs,” gets rave reviews here. I always love to try and grab a lunch special for a super affordable and tasty meal in Key West.

4. Mr. Z’s Old Town

Mr. Z’s is an institution in the area and serves up more than just pizza. The authentic Italian sandwiches, made either hot or cold, are just as much of a draw, especially their cheesesteak. You can get the best of both worlds here and order the Cheesesteak Pizza!

Otherwise, the Tomato Pie and White Pie are the top picks and are both customizable with a wide range of gourmet toppings. They are open every day of the week, and even until 4:00 am on the weekends, in case you’re craving a late-night slice. It is the perfect place to come after a night out visiting some of the best bars in Key West.

5. Roostica

Roostica is a wood-fired pizzeria widely considered to be a favorite in Key West. The open kitchen allows you to watch the careful and authentic preparation of the pie you picked as it slides in and out of the impressive oven. The space feels hip and high-end for a very enjoyable dining experience.

The dough is made with only soft-grain flour, yeast, water, and sea salt. Only Italian plum tomatoes, mozzarella di buffalo, extra virgin olive oil, and fresh basil are used to top it. It doesn’t get much more traditional for Neapolitan pizzas than that. They boast an extensive menu with something for everyone, though ordering the Sicilian Deep Dish is advised if you ask me.

6. New York Pasta Garden

New York Pasta Garden has been a foodie staple on the island since 1989. The owner is from New York and, lucky for us, has brought his love for all things Italian to Key West. They’re known for giant portions, creative cuisine, and tropical cocktails.

New York Pasta Garden is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all available for takeout, delivery, and dining in. There’s a wide range of dishes to try here, including pasta bakes, seafood, and barbecue. The garden space is gorgeous, with plenty of foliage, twinkle lights, and charming wooden tables. The garlic bread that starts off every meal for free is a delicious bonus as well.

Just steps away from the warm Atlantic Ocean, this historic and charming spot’s scenery makes it even more worthwhile. If you love eating at restaurants on the water, this is one of the best waterfront restaurants in Key West.
