Most people have heard of the ‘Big 5’ which are the largest and most dangerous animals, but may not know this list. This is the 5 ugliest creatures roaming around the African continent.

The Marabou Stork

This bird reminded me of a crabby old bald guy, its head is featherless and the large beak help to put him on this notorious list.

The Wildebeest

With a face only a mother could love the wildebeest will not be winning any beauty pageants. His powerful body looks like it was taken from several different animals and squeezed into one beast-like creature.

The Warthog

These guys are so ugly that they are kinda cute in a way, especially when the run their skinny tail sticks straight up, and the ball of fuzz at the tip bobs back and forth.

The Vulture

Vultures are almost synonymous with ugly, we spotted these two hanging out on top of a tree just waiting for something to scavenge.

The Hyena

Just look at that face and ears, need I say more.

We spotted this motley crew in our first week on our African safari with Acacia Africa in the countries of Kenya and Tanzania. The stork and the vultures we saw in the Maasai Mara of Kenya and the rest in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park.
